About ACIH: Policy of ACIHPromotion of Preventive MedicinePreventive medicine is a cost-effective method to improve health. This is the basis for ACIH's strategy. Major areas of interest include surveillance, response to and elimination of infectious diseases; vaccines and biologicals: introduction of related technology: and finally training and research to promote health activities. Collaboration with Special Programmes of High Priority in Developing CountriesACIH is looking to support health programmes of global and national priority, specifically in developing countries. For example, special seminars on how to develop health systems in countries recently affected by war. Ageing and health are not only problems of rich nations but also, increasingly, problems of many developing countries. Programmes addressing such problems touch on a different dimension of health activity related to welfare and social style. Such programmes are to be based on the approach of preventive medicine, specifically the prevention of illness and the deterioration of health in aging populations. ResearchACIH is interested in conducting researches on the introduction of new vaccines, surveillance methodology, eradication of human illness, and analysis of differences in health indices between Japan and other nations. Full consultation should take place between the partners and recipient countries in order to foster a free exchange of ideas. Training Seminar for Japanese ExpertsSubjects include infectious diseases, their epidemiology and public health response, directed to Japanese Overseas Volunteers serving in related health areas in developing countries. To Support the Development of Priority Health ProgrammesThe ACIH supports research into and development of priority health programmes in the developing countries. The ACIH will actively encourage the health programmes to participate in seminar, and courses for open discussions. Full consultation should take place between the partners and recipient countries in order to foster a free exchange of ideas. Cooperation with Other AgenciesThis will best be achieved by collaborating
with JICA, the Japanese governmental agencies, other multilateral
and bilateral agencies, and various NGOs, including those
international health programmes which place special emphasis on preventive medicine. |
