Group Training Course in Development of Laboratory Diagnosis of Drug Resistant Microbes II

From November 22 to March 25, the above mentioned course was held inviting eight participants from Botswana, Fiji, India, Kenya, Panama, Peru, Philippines and Thailand.  In first 4 weeks, the lectures on latest information on the field of microbiology, epidemiology and countermeasures against drug resistant microbes.  From January, they received the training in National Hospital Organization Kumamoto Medical Center, Kumamoto SAISYUNSO Hospital, Saiseikai Hospital, Kumamoto University Hospital and KAKETSUKEN to learn the testing techniques and routine works in laboratories in relation to drug resistant microbes.  On the final day, the participants presented their plan of action based on what they have learned in Japan.  We believe, they are going to acting an important role in their country.  (Photo gallery)

Country Focused Training Course - Medical Training for Iraq Southern Region (Pediatric Service II)

Two medical doctors from southern region of Iraq participated in the above mentioned course to improve their medical technology and gain the information on latest system of Japan. The training was mainly done by National Hospital Organization Kumamoto Medical Center and the hospitals in Kumamoto Prefecture. They were very keen to apply their knowledge gained during their stay in Japan to their workplace.  We believe their experience in Japan will help them to improve their situation. 

Training at National Hospital Organization Mie HospitalMedical Training for Muthanna (Seminar on Control of Infectious Diseases)

Seminar on Control of Infectious Diseases was conducted to ten doctors of the medical institutes in Samawa city and outskirts of Muthanna, southern Iraq from 29 November to 17 December.  With the support of various institutes, including Kumamoto Medical Center, Oguni Public Hospital, Mie Hospital and Kumamoto University School of Medicine, the lectures on disease control measures were given to the participants.  Also, they visited various medical institutes related to infectious disease control.  During 3-week course, they discussed and prepared the action plan which were given to JICA, Ministry of Foreign Affair and Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, Japan.  In their action plan, the prolonging supports was requested to international community, including Japan. 

Beside training, they also attended an exchange programme with the high school students, etc. This opportunity made the link of the friendship of Iraq and Japan.  We expect that this training deepened our relationship and we believe, they will play an active role to rebuild the measures against infectious diseases in Muthanna.  (Photo Album)

Agricultural Medicine and Rural Health

Nine medical officers participated from Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Egypt, Indonesia, Laos, Paraguay, Philippines and Seychelles.  In the training course, the lecture, discussion, workshop and the visit were held to learn about the various area related to agricultural medicine and rural health.  The participants exchanged information and discussed actively.  Moreover, each participant conducted a research on the each selected topics.

Also except such lectures, the participants enjoyed the sightseeing of Tokyo and Kagoshima, the home party by members of Soroptimist International of Kumamoto-Sumire and Japanese culture experiences, like wearing Kimono and attending tea ceremony, by Japanese Modern Kimono Association.  (Photogallery)

Field Visit to Tokyo Metropolitan Blood Center

Seminar on Infectious Hepatitis, Its Epidemiology, Prevention and Treatment

Eleven specialists on infectious hepatitis and its prevention participated from various countries including Egypt, Fiji, Kenya, Mexico, Mongolia, Nicaragua, Panama, Philippines, Vanuatu and Zimbabwe.  Although it was the limited period, 3 weeks, the training included the latest knowledge of epidemiology, surveillance techniques and control measures of each viral hepatitis.  Training was mainly held at National Hospital Organization Kumamoto Medical Center with collaboration of many Japanese experts of various institutes, including National Hospital Organization Nagasaki Medical Center, Kumamoto University and Kurume University.  Taking advantage of this experience, we believe, they will play an active role in the measures against hepatitis in their own country. 

Closing CeremonySeminar on Blood and Sex Infectious Diseases, Control of AIDS and ATL

This year, eleven specialists of AIDS control came from eleven countries; Belize, Burundi, Eritrea, Fiji, Gambia ,Honduras, Malawi, Myanmar, Senegal, Togo and Uzbekistan.  In those countries, the spread of AIDS are very much concerned, and the immediate measure is demanded.  Although the training course was held for only three weeks, the training course was fully covered the area of epidemiology of AIDS/ATL, surveillance technique, the lab. diagnostic technology and the sociological measure.  We believe, they play active parts as new power to control AIDS in their countries based on what they learned during their stay in Japan. 

24 June, Courtesy Visit to Kumamoto Prefecture


More than 1000 experts came to Kumamoto through JICA training courses, organized by ACIH, since the establishment of ACIH in 1990 (please refer to the figure).  Behind this record, it cannot be overemphasized that there are many cooperation of teachers in and outside Japan and related institutions. Based on our accomplishments, we would like to  provide more useful training courses in the world from now on.  We would appreciate very much for continuous support and cooperation.
