About ACIH:
Rationale for
Establishing ACIH in Japan
In Japan, progress in the area of health and
medical care has been particularly remarkable. Our life span is one of the
longest and infant mortality is one of the lower. However, we can not
remain complacent in view of the fact that there are many nations in Africa, the
Middle East, Asia and Latin America where the health situation needs substantial
improvement. In fact, the gap between rich and poor nations in the area
of health appears to be widening.
Under the circumstances, everyone, rich and poor alike, must
work together to improve this unsatisfactory situation. Agency
for Cooperation in International Health (ACIH), a non-profit
organization, has been established with the endorsement of the
Japanese Government to participate in just such an international
effort.
To assist in this undertaking, ACIH was established in 1990
with the headquarter in Kumamoto, JAPAN.
